Meet the Vibrant Karaköi in the City of Istanbul

Istanbul is undoubtedly one of the top cities in the list of travelers, like me. The place is stunning and worth seeing Istanbul’s neighborhoods, exploring every corner of every street. One of the places I loved the most was Karaköi.

The small hipster Turkish district is very reminiscent of the region of Vila Madalena, in São Paulo, and it is possible to explore in one day, so here is a hint of gold: spend at least a day exploring the neighborhood full of art galleries such as Istanbul Modern, bars, restaurants and cafes with lots of good music.

I can say that Boca Tashin Street is certainly the high point of Karaköi. There you see the true heart, the essence, of Istanbul.

On my tour of the beautiful Karaköi, I chose this super stylish look: The Litt red dress stole the scene with all the charm and sensuality it brings, with the deep neckline and long ruffled sleeves. To balance and ensure comfort in the look, Tommy boots were my choice.

Check out how the photos of this amazing day of sightseeing in Istanbul and be sure to comment on what you think of the look, whether it was in Karaköi or if you would like to go!

Where to go in Istanbul: get to know the sights of the historical city center

My most recent trip was to Istanbul, a city with the past so present these days that even the hotel I stayed in has a historical reference. Today I will show you a bit of my tour through the historical center of Istanbul, the Sultanahmet district, and give some tips on where to go and how to visit each place there.

Sultanahmet has long been the heart of Constantinople, sheltering the monuments built in the Byzantine, Ottoman and Roman Empires, and automatically becomes the place most chosen by tourists to stay, being very close to the points of visit and the ease of circular in the small neighborhood.

So here’s the first tip: stay for a while in the historic center, there you will not even need a taxi to get around during your tours since everything is so close that you do the tour without difficulties even walking.

The city has a mix of past cultures and religions, so you can find well diversified and contrasting points, such as the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. One was built during the Roman empire and the other during the Ottoman, respectively. When the Blue Mosque began to be built the intention was that the place was larger and more beautiful than the Basilica of another religion.

The Hippodrome, also known as the Hippodrome square, was a very important place during the time of Constantinople. It was here that the most important events were held, but today it is more a place for good photos and rest between one visit and another.

Mikla restaurante Istanbul.

Visit the Mikla restaurant in Istanbul

The wonderful restaurant ranch in the 44th place by the World 50 Best list is worth every second tasting and I had the pleasure of dining there when I was in Istanbul last month.

Mikla was unrecognized in 2005 when restaurant chef and owner Mehmet Gürs had the brilliant idea of creating a traditional restaurant that referred to the people of Istanbul but with a contemporary view. This is how the acclaimed chef created the New Anatolian Kitchen, or rather, the new Anatolian cuisine.

The whole Menu of the restaurant was designed to contemplate the oldest and most traditional techniques, using the best ingredients cultivated by local and honest farmers, according to the restaurant’s website, in a way that the dishes are the perfect blend of the natural and the exquisite. with the innovator.

There are three menu options: the captivating tasting menu with 7 different dishes, the traditional a la carte, where the customer can choose three courses for the meal, and the wine list, which is full of intense flavors.

The ambiance of the restaurant is also pleasant, being located at the top of the hotel The Marmara Pera the view is splendid and asserts its on-site experience. With indoor and outdoor areas you can choose the place you prefer, but the restaurant bar is outside, making those who just go to enjoy the restaurant’s wines and drinks can admire the view as well.

I know how hard it is to decide the date of travel. Heat, cold, vacation, high season, low season. And now, what to do? How to choose? CALM! I came on a mission to help you and today, the tip goes to anyone who wants to go to my most recent destination: Istanbul.

I do not intend to wrap you up definitely with all my traveling experience, I declare that the best months to visit Istanbul and its wonders are from April to September when it comes to temperature, but we will vary slightly the period within those months of according to what each one seeks.

The period considered the best is due to the little amount of rain in the spring and summer and the most pleasant temperature that allows beautiful photos on sunny days in front of the historical monuments, ensuring sightseeing tours without worries.

During the colder period in the city, from October to March, temperatures drop to 3 ° C and snow is guaranteed for at least 20 days. Okay, snow is beautiful, Turkey itself looks beautiful in the winter, but it would disrupt your tour of Istanbul.

Winter in Istanbul. Photo: Google

The sights there are not made for a visit in the extreme cold, the city is small and you can explore on foot, the activities in the city do not include Ski, so it would be very difficult to really enjoy everything that is provided.

For this reason, I suggest that you plan your visit to Istanbul in the hot spring/summer months, from April to September, as well as being easier to get to know the monuments of the city, you can even plan to take a tour of the Bosphorus Strait.

As I said at the beginning, there are two possibilities within this period: go between April and June or from July to September.

Archaeological Museums of Istanbul. Photo: Google

If your intention is to meet many people, be in a city full of different people and enjoy the tourist buzz to the maximum, without doubt, you must go between July and September. It is the summer vacation long awaited by students and families planning to travel.

Now, as it is not a holiday season, nor a time of year when many are willing to travel, the months of April to June are calmer to make international travel. As a result, Istanbul is a city that is a little more empty, although it still receives many tourists, it is easier to enjoy the city as a local enjoys in this period.

I chose to go in April, I got quite enjoyed my trip and I stayed in a wonderful hotel, which provided me with a lot of relaxation. Now all you have to do is decide when to go, the tips you already have.

The city of Istanbul, by local people

Travel is good, but traveling with tips from local people is much better. Here are the tips from my local friend from Istanbul, Ertugrul Konokoglu.

@ertugrulkonukoglu

@ertugrulkonukoglu

To get directions, he told us which hotels he likes best in his city. These are the Raffles Hotel, the Çırağan Kempinski Palace and Four Seasons, which are also among my favorite hotels. In addition to these 3 hotels, he recommended the Swissotel The Bosphorus Istanbul, which is located in the Bosphorus Strait. This is a more suitable area for those who want to stay a bit further away from the center. The Swissotel has already been awarded as one of the safest hotels to be in and has views of the strait and rooftop pool.

And the St. Regis Istanbul. The hotel chain is present in several countries always offering complete services, which makes them worthy of 5 stars. At the Istanbul unit, you can enjoy the indoor pool and have an exclusive butler 24H a day.

The next tips are from restaurants frequented by locals. The best according to Konokoglu are Sunset grill & bar, Japanese cuisine. Arnavutkoy balikcisi yenikoy, seafood. Çırağan Palace Tugra restaurant, located inside the hotel indicated above, the Çırağan Kempinski Palace, serves European international dishes. The Ulus 29, which offers local cuisine as well as other European dishes. The cool thing about Ulus is that after a certain time the restaurant turns into a really cool club.

Cecconi’s Italian is also a great option, especially if you are staying at Soho House. Masses are served there inspired by Italian gastronomy. In addition, he said that in Ortakoy you can also find good seafood restaurants.

Ertugrul has left us the indications of the bars, ballads and festivals most frequented.

In order to enjoy the evening, he proposed the Lucca Bar in Bebek and the Lounge of the Soho House Hotel. On Saturday, he advised us to enjoy Suits Emirgan’s traditional breakfast, and a Sunday brunch at the Four Seasons brunch is mandatory before taking a tour of the historic part of the city. The perfect Sunday night, for Ertugrul, ends in the lounge of the Sunset Grill.

Already on Monday, the script is Mangeoire in Bebek, and a day of laziness the + Fenix club, followed by an extraordinary dinner on the spot.

Meet the Four Seasons Hotel in Sultanahmet: the historical city of Istanbul

Hello hello, my dear ones,
this post is for you who accompanied me during my trip to Istanbul last week and I was asked to review the Four Seasons hotel in the Historical City.
Firstly, I will talk about the location that I found the ideal for those who come to visit the city of Istanbul for the first time. The hotel is only a block from all the main sights. So if you’re going there, stay in this area for one or two nights at most.

The other nights I recommend the Bosphorus region, where the locals go and are located some of the coolest restaurants and bars.

The four seasons Sultan Ahmet is quite small and has no pool, beauty services, and a satisfactory spa. But I understood after understanding a little about the historic tower of the hotel, which in the 60s was a prison used to imprison young writers, musicians, and artists, even there is the story of the movie “midnight express”.

The Seasons restaurant sits inside a glass pavilion in the center of the hotel garden where you can enjoy tasty meals and the famous Sunday brunch surrounded by stunning décor with Turkish art and Ottoman-era features.

The Hotel also has the A’YA Lounge on the terrace which allows a beautiful view of the historic center. The Lounge serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and also offers a menu of savory snacks.

Despite being small, I had a good experience at the hotel. Treating accommodation The Four Seasons offers rooms with very comfortable mattresses and espresso machine. The individual bathroom disappoints a bit for being very small, but nothing that would disrupt my comfort in the hotel.

Talking about the architecture of the hotel, because it is an old building from the Ottoman period, it is considered a place with neoclassical style. It’s lovely to see how time only values these places.

The interior of the hotel is all decorated with works of Turkish craftsmen and without abandoning the Ottoman decorations, present all over the place and also has a very beautiful landscaped courtyard.

The location of the hotel is also very good but, as I said at the beginning of this post, I recommend staying in the historic area for a maximum of days so that you can enjoy your trip more in the good restaurants and ballads of Istanbul.

The Four Seasons is privileged by the incredible view of the Blue Mosque, one of the most visited places in the city.

The best hotels to stay in Istanbul

The fourth largest city in the world, located in Turkey was my latest destination. Here is for you my list of the best places to stay during your stay in Istanbul.

It is important to note that the city is very chaotic in traffic, so my first tip is to stay for at least two nights in the historical center of Sultanahmet, where the main sights are. So you can more comfortably explore the place on foot even and have a more authentic dining experience.

In the historic center:

  • Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul Sultanahmet

Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul Sultanahmet offers SPA, gym and spacious and comfortable accommodation. It also has a restaurant and bar serving good drinks and typical dishes.

  • Ajwa Hotel Sultanahmet

The Hotel is still new in the city, opened just two years ago and is only ten minutes from the Blue Mosque. Ajwa offers comfortable and modern accommodation in a traditional style. You also have a SPA, a gym, and an on-site restaurant.

If you do not want to stay exactly in the historical center, very close and best located in the vibrant region of Trim covered with bars and restaurants with a more alternative vibe, are:

  • Soho House

Soho House. Foto: Booking.com

Soho House is a complex of three luxurious buildings. It offers spacious, contemporary accommodation, a spa, and a gym. In addition, in the patio, is located the restaurant Cecconi’s, surrounded by a beautiful garden.

  • Rixos Pera Istanbul

Considered to be the best hotel in Turkey and my favorite, the Çırağan is housed in a former Ottoman palace from the 19th century. The wonderful hotel offers breathtaking, tastefully decorated and luxurious accommodation with panoramic windows overlooking the garden or the sea. There you can also enjoy the SPA, gym, two bars, and two restaurants, but the main attraction is the infinity pool that allows the view of the Bosphorus Strait.

  • Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul

Located on the European coast of the Bosphorus Strait, this hotel offers spacious and luxurious accommodation as well as SPA suites. There is a SPA that offers various relaxing activities, indoor and heated swimming pool, three restaurants and a lounge.

  • Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at the Bosphorus

This luxurious hotel is located in a 19th-century Ottoman palace on the seafront on the coast. The Four Seasons offers two restaurants, one on the hotel terrace, a bar and a lounge, as well as an indoor and an open-air pool surrounded by umbrellas, SPA, gym, and spacious accommodations.

Last but not least, I recommend it to anyone who is a lover of modern architecture and wishes to be surrounded by good restaurants in a high standard Raffles Istanbul location.

Raffles Istanbul. Foto: Booking.com

Click on the image to make your reservation with booking.com

Located in central Zorlu, Raffles offers stylish accommodation with a balcony and great views. In addition, the hotel has a terrace, two restaurants, a lounge bar, indoor and outdoor pool, SPA and gym.

In downtown Zorlu you will find the residential area and also a modern design mall with all the shops and brands most loved by us.

I recommend a four-day and four-night city tour, being two days in Sultanahmet or Taksim and two days in the Bosphorus or Zorlu region. That way you can enjoy the best of Istanbul without any difficulties.
