The Best Places to Visit in Rome

If there is a country full of fascinating places with a lot of history, architecture and spectacular cuisine, it is surely Italy, and its capital, Rome, is one of my unforgettable destinations!

The “Eternal City,” as it is known, was founded in 735 b.C and is one of the most important cities in world history, one of the only cities in the world where great and ancient monuments were kept and became calling cards of the city.

On my last visit, I explored every corner of the Italian city. The best option is to take a bike tour. The tour lasts around 1 hour, especially at the end of the night, when the streets are empty and less crowded, and besides being a cheap option, it allows you to enjoy the view better during the trip.

You can rent an electric bike from Get Your Guide for € 25 1 – 3 days, with helmet, padlock, child seat up to 4 years old and insurance included.

Next, I’ll tell you more about the places I recommend for the tour:

Roman Forum and the Paladin: Tickets are included to those of the Colosseum and they are side by side, so when you leave the Colosseum, stop by! The Arch of Titus, the Giulia Basilica and the Temple of Saturn are all part of the forum building which is a large open square, so check the weather and avoid going on a rainy day! The forum was the center of Roman public life; elections, political speeches and criminal proceedings were held there, thus becoming known as the “cradle of law”.

Pantheon: From the Latin, Pantheon means “of all gods”, the Pantheon is over 2,000 years old and is the best preserved structure of ancient Rome. Today it is used as a Catholic church and prayer temple, but was formerly used as a temple for the worship of gods such as Saturn, Venus, Neptune and so on. Also inside there were buried personalities, like painters Raffaello and Annibale Caracci, kings Vittorio and Emanuele II and queen Margherita.

Fontana Di Trevi: The Rome icon just behind the Colosseum. Who has never dreamed of throwing a penny in the fountain to make a wish? Designed by Nicola Salvi, the fountain is located at the tre vie intersection, giving the name Di Trevi, marking the end of one of the city’s oldest aqueducts, the Aqua Virgo. However, since 2007, the source has been supplied by a pump that brings water from the city’s supply system. In the middle of the fountain is the statue of the Ocean god leading a shell drawn by two seahorses. The fountain is on the facade of Palazzo Poli, which is home to the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica and the Istituto Nazionale per la Grafica museum, which are also worth a visit!

Piazza Di Spagna: Next to the Palazzo Fendi already mentioned in a previous post, the square is a show apart for the beauty and the alleys around it! The piazza was inaugurated in the 16th century, consecrated by the Trinità dei Monti church , giving its name to the famous stairway of 135 steps, Escalinata di Trinità dei Monti, where tourists and residents sit, enjoying the city, especially in spring / summer where the gardens that decorate the staircase are flowery. A great tour for those who want to enjoy the city, both day and night, and want to try Italian cuisine, as there are several options of cafes and restaurants around it.
