I think San Diego has different vibes depending on where you choose to stay. check out my list of favorite hotels in the city now!
For those who like the bustle, nightlife and good restaurants I highly recommend staying in the Gaslamp Quarter so you will be able to just walk through all the options.
My favorite, who is even in love and used to attend the pool almost daily when I lived there is The Pendry Hotel.
It offers an outdoor pool, gym and bar, and great accommodation with a private bathroom.
Another that I also like a lot and have a jovial vibe and a nice and well-frequented rooftop is the Hotel Andaz.
In it, you enjoy an incredible rooftop with panoramic views of San Diego and a pool on the terrace.
Other hotels we also recommend are:
The Westin San Diego
The Westin is a traditional hotel located just fifteen minutes walk from Seaport Village and offers an on-site restaurant and café. You can also enjoy a relaxing massage or work out in the fully equipped gym.
For those who are going with family and are not fans of bustle but like a charming and quiet place just 15 min from the center, I recommend the traditional Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Beach.
Hotel Del Coronado
The hotel is very old but full of charm and history. It continues to be frequented by Hollywood celebrities and American personalities who are looking for a quiet place to rest.
The town is small, only 15 min drive from the GaslampQuarter and the hotel is possible if you walk through charming restaurants, shops, and art galleries.
For those who like beach, sun, lots of excitement and a surfing climate in California, I think it’s super valid if you stay in Pacific Beach.
And there my hotel recommendations are:
Tower 23 Hotel
The hotel is small but very charming and ideal for anyone who is visiting California intending to surf and live the famous “Californian Dream”. Guests can enjoy in-room spa services and enjoy gourmet cuisine at the on-site restaurant.
For those looking to live the Californian dream in a quiet, super charming, beachfront and surrounded by art galleries and frequented by visitors and more refined places, my suggestion is Lá Jolla and within my recommendations of where to stay are:
The traditionals
Lá valência Hotel
The hotel’s great location and charm are the high points. There you will enjoy a wellness center with massage, full Spa, outdoor pool and a restaurant and a café.
Estância Lá Jolla Hotel e Spa
The boutique hotel adjacent to the University of California offers three restaurants, a spa, a full-service health spa, and an outdoor pool.
Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines
The Hotel is magnificent, although it is farther away than the others. The Hilton is already well-known elsewhere and this unit of the hotel is not to be missed. In it, you can enjoy luxurious accommodation, golf course and more.
To stay in the city of Carlsbad, owner of one of the best beaches in California for surfing, I recommend it for those looking for peace and search for good waves. But the place is further away and does not have many options for restaurants, bars, and nightlife.
My favorite hotel there is the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa.
The hotel borders the Pacific Ocean and offers a Spa, heated outdoor pool and an incredible restaurant.
And to close with the gold key in Del Mar, near the jockey, I highly recommend the L’Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa, this is one of my favorites in San Diego.
I like the quiet vibe of the area and the portion of charming restaurants that can be found there. Well worth it.
